Cyclists invited to join lap record attempt at Cadwell Park

Thursday, September 27 2012

A team of charity fundraisers are aiming to set a lap record of Cadwell Park next week (Thursday 4 October) - on a trandum! The attempt will form the centrepiece of a ride around the Lincolnshire wolds, and keen riders are invited to bring their bikes and join in the cycle around the famous Cadwell Park tarmac.

The Lincolnshire Wolds Trandum Ride, organised by Tattershall and Coningsby Lion's Club, will pass Woodhall Spa and Horncastle before the Cadwell Park lap record attempt. It will then head to Louth and the three-day route will also take in Mablethorpe, Skegness, Spilsby, Boston, ending at Coningsby central. The event will be in aid of the Lions International measles initiative.

The 1932 Sun three-seater Trandum will be familiar to some, having been last seen on the popular 1970s TV comedy show The Goodies. Keen riders and fundraisers are also being invited to take part in the event, which will call in at local public houses and ice cream parlours on route. There is no limit to how long riders can spend in the saddle.

Ride organiser John Johnson said: "I have been visiting Cadwell since childhood, with my first event way back in 1956, so have seen a lot of changes to the Circuit. I am also a member of the Tattershall and Coningsby Lion's Club and this event takes place during our Lion's awareness week. Because Cadwell has given me such pleasure in the past now it's my turn to give something back.

"So far we have 4 riders from our club and with others joining us on route, I have invited all 8 Lions Clubs to attend Cadwell to cheer on the teams as well as bringing their friends along."

Bike riding members of the public are welcome to enter a team for the Cadwell Park ride to see who can get the best lap time, or just ride alongside the fundraisers. Riders should arrive on site between 12:00 noon and 12:30pm on Thursday 4 October, and the clubhouse will be open for refreshments.
