Fans will get the ‘Bug’ at Cadwell Vintage Festival this Saturday

Thursday, June 06 2013

19 priceless Bugatti racing cars will feature in the prestigious 'Williams Trophy Race' at the Cadwell Vintage Sports Car Festival this Saturday (8 June), organised by the Vintage Sports Car Club.

Tying in with the 'International Bugatti Rally' that will see nearly 100 Pre-war Bugatti cars touring Scotland in less than a fortnight, this year's Williams Trophy has seen bolstered by support from Bugatti enthusiasts who have gathered from all over the world for the event.  The race is for cars built before 1935 that would have competed in early Grand Prix races, to commemorate the victory of 'Grover' Williams who won the first Monaco Grand Prix in 1929 in a Bugatti Type 35.  The grid is packed with rare and unique machines whose drivers are hopeful to have their name engraved on the coveted trophy, which is the one that Grover won in Monte Carlo.

The car parks will be packed with Bugatti owners who have travelled to Lincolnshire to watch the race, before starting their holiday.

The race is supported by a programme of 10 other races that will attract some 150 Pre-war and Historic racers to the circuit.

Highlights include Lincolnshire built ERAs 'R4D' and 'R4A' up against HWM and an Alfa Romeo P3 amongst many more in the feature Shuttleworth, Nuffield and Len Thompson Memorial Trophies Race.  The Frazer Nash Car Club will provide a full grid of popular 'chain-gang' cars for their annual Club race which always sees close action and memorable thrills.  An amazing line up of Pre-1930 Vintage racers will jostle for honours in the John Holland Trophy Race including Morgan, Bentley, Frazer Nash and Bugatti and the Formula 3(500) race has attracted a great representation of these nimble 1950s machines that so many of the great Grand Prix drivers cut their teeth in.

Morgan 3 Wheelers get the day's racing underway at 1.00pm for their 6 lap race where drivers race with passengers. Practice starts at 9.00am.

Tickets for the Vintage Sports Car Festival at Cadwell Park are available on the gate for £17, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
