Cadwell Park celebrates 50 years of Formula Vee

Thursday, July 27 2017

This weekend's (29/30 July) 750 Motor Club event will celebrate the Golden Anniversary of Formula Vee in the UK, with past competitors joining the action on the Lincolnshire Wolds track.

Formula Vee came to the UK after success in Europe for the VW Beetle-derived single-seaters. Bereft of wings and running treaded tyres, the cars were cheap to run and alongside the nascent Formula Ford category, nurtured the careers of aspiring racing drivers.

Current points leader Ben Miloudi leads the entry for this weekend's anniversary races, which includes former FVee champion Daniel Hands, historic racer Andy Storer, and Vee chassis producer Kevin Sheane.

With a strong entry joining the championship regulars, the field will be split into two groups, with a pair of qualifying sessions and three heats. There will also be a last chance race on Sunday morning before the grand final.

750 MC Competitions Manager Giles Groombridge said: "We have 40 entries for and many current and recent drivers will take part. With it being the 50th anniversary interest is high.

"Fundamentally the cars are simple, easy to maintain and take on for an amateur, but as racing cars evolved and switched away from space frames they became more difficult to maintain. The Formula Vee chassis are rugged and easy to repair when damaged, as well as cheap overall. They are pretty quick, with very close racing and I think that keeps people involved. You don't get many people come in for just one season."

Tickets for the 750 Motor Championships are available for £15 or on the gate, with free entry for under-13s. For more information, please call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
