Cadwell Park honours record-breaking local rider

Friday, September 08 2017

Local hero Lee Jackson - Lincoln's own MCE British Superbike Championship rider - returned to Cadwell Park this week to unveil a sign marking the new lap record he set at August's 'Party in the Park' MCE BSB event.

Lee smashed the circuit record during a successful weekend for his Smiths Racing BMW team and admitted returning to his local track to unveil the prestigious lap record board bearing his name was a rather special homecoming.

"I've been coming to Cadwell for years, so to get the lap record here is a great feeling. I wasn't focusing on the record, I just rode my race for the team and everything came together," he said.

Keeping it local, Louth printer GRS Signs was tasked with creating the new sign - plus an extra copy that Lee has autographed to be auctioned in aid of the Lincs Notts Air Ambulance.

The Lincoln-based rider achieved his best results to date at Cadwell Park since signing for a top-level superbike team.  The lap record was an added bonus for Jackson, who took his first podium in the series during a dramatic second superbike race of the weekend. The race also saw the team's other local rider, Louth's Peter Hickman, reach the podium to strengthen his position in the fight to reach the top six Showdown shoot-out going into the final three races of the season.

For Cadwell Park Circuit Manager, Paul Woodford the whole experience has been a great way to put the circuit firmly on the map and celebrate local success:

"What's great about this new lap record is that we've been able to create a local story," Woodford said. "Not only did all of our local riders hit the headlines with their results in the various categories, but GRS Signs in Louth produced the board for us and we arranged for Managing Director, Steve Wilson, to deliver the all-important package to Lee at the top of our famous Mountain.

"A lot has been said in the local media about the impact our British Superbike Championship round has on the local economy, and for me this story sums it up so we've celebrated with a fun video of Lee's big moment!"
