Ford RS badge returns to the BTCC with Jackson and Chilton

Thursday, January 11 2018

Mat Jackson and Tom Chilton will be spearheading the return of the iconic Ford RS badge to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. The pairing will be challenging for the title with the new-look Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher Ford Focus RS.

Jackson returns to the Motorbase fold for his ninth consecutive year with the Wrotham-based squad. The 36-year-old scored the team's sole win of the 2017 season, his 31st in the BTCC. With team-mate Chilton's tally of 12 BTCC victories, Motorbase will be fielding one of the championship's strongest line-ups this season.

Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Gallagher unveiled the Ford Focus RS at the Autosport International show, and the squad has worked closely with technical partners Mountune and Pro Alloy over the winter. The new car reunites the iconic Ford RS badge to the BTCC, last seen in the era of the Sierra RS500 30 years ago.

"I'm delighted with the new look;" commented Team Principal David Bartrum. "The cars have been upgraded to the RS over the winter which has rejuvenated the Focus. If it goes as well as it looks, then we'll be very happy by the end of the season.

"I'm a Ford fan through and through; the RS in my DNA from when I raced RS Cosworths back in the day so I'm over the moon to bring them back to the BTCC as part of the Motorbase stable.

"The team have done an excellent job over the winter, it's not just been a case of updating a few bumpers, a lot of development work has gone into this car and we're confident that the improvements will show on track. With the new car, and driver line-up we have in place for 2018, I can't wait for the season to start."

Jackson added; "It's great to be back with Motorbase and Team Shredded Wheat with Gallagher for another crack at the Championship. I'm looking forward to it immensely.

"I know that the guys have been hard at work over the winter to improve the pace of the car and there's been a huge amount of hard work that's gone in from their side. We've got a whole new set up this year with the RS and a new team-mate in Tom on-board for the season. It's going to be an exciting season, and we're hopeful that the changes will put us in good stead to battle for the BTCC title this year."
