Formula 1 demonstration wows Cadwell Park crowd

Wednesday, August 13 2014

Formula 1 came to Cadwell Park last Saturday (9 August), when a Grand Prix-winning Benetton lapped the Lincolnshire circuit at the power-themed Modified Live event.

The Benetton B190 that took part in the demonstration run won the 1990 Japanese and Australian Grands Prix with triple World Champion Nelson Piquet at the wheel. The Ford-powered car, now in the ownership of enthusiast John Reaks, wowed crowds at Cadwell Park, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary year.

Known as the 'mini-Nurburgring', Cadwell Park has developed a legendary reputation as one of the country's most challenging and picturesque race circuits. Fans regularly flock to the famous Mountain section, whilst trackday enthusiasts on both two and four wheels relish the opportunity to tackle the many corners, cambers and undulations that each lap provides.

After the drive Reaks said: "Cadwell Park provides a real work out in an F1 car! It's very technical, and the Mountain was a huge challenge, but I found the whole experience totally thrilling. Although I haven't driven an F1 car around the Nürburgring, when it comes to cambers, gradients and corners, it compares well to road car laps of the Nordschleife."
