Cadwell Park’s heritage brought back to life for Wolds Trophy

Monday, May 14 2018

Cadwell Park takes a scenic drive back in time this weekend (19-20 May) as the Historic Sports Car Club brings the Wolds Trophy to the Lincolnshire Wolds venue for what promises to be the most action-packed programme in the event's history.

A varied race weekend will see saloons and single-seaters going wheel-to-wheel, including pre-66 touring cars, historic Formula 3, and the penultimate round of the unrivalled three-year Diamond Jubilee Formula Junior World Tour.

In addition, fans will be treated to a sight and sound not experienced at Cadwell Park since the mid-1970s, as vintage and historic F1 stock cars take to the circuit for a lunch-time demonstration on both days.

Renowned stock car commentator Max Sanderson will tell a very visual story of the sport's development from the NASCAR-inspired racers of the 1950s to the 'golden years' of stock car racing in the 1960s.

The demonstration will star five 'Barnstomers' from the 1950s, and five 1960s 'specials', recapturing an era which drew huge crowds at the Lincolnshire venue. Fans will then get a rare chance to look round these evocative racing cars in the Display Area.

As well as the motor racing spectacle unfolding on track, leading classic car hire company Great Escape Cars will offer visitors the chance to get behind the wheel of four famous British classic cars, including the Ford Capri and the E-Type Jaguar.

The classic car taster experiences will take place around a pre-defined route on the roads surrounding the circuit, offering a 20 to 25-minute unaccompanied drive from only £40.

Circuit Manager Paul Woodford said: "We're working hard to further enhance the visitor experience. The Wolds Trophy brings some very iconic race series to Cadwell Park, it really is a highlight on the historic motor racing calendar.

"We're excited about the F1 stock cars and classic car experiences because they represent unique ways for our race fans to connect with our rich heritage. After all, how many chances will you get to drive an E-Type Jaguar this year?"

Action on circuit gets underway from 9am on both days, with F1 stock car demonstrations taking place during the lunch breaks. Classic car experiences are subject to availability on the day. Bookings will be taken directly by Great Escape Cars.
