Cadwell Park set to host Lincolnshire's biggest sporting event

Friday, August 20 2010

There's just over a week to go until Cadwell Park motor racing circuit hosts Lincolnshire's biggest sporting event the August Bank Holiday round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship.

Staff at the track are working round the clock in preparation for the internationally-acclaimed race meeting, dubbed the 'Party in the Park', and across the three day event over 200 temporary staff, mostly from the local area, will be employed by the circuit to ensure its success.

Some 45,000 race fans are expected to attend on 28-30 August, drawn to the party atmosphere, the picturesque setting and one of the most famous motor racing landmarks in the world the fearsome 'Mountain' section where the Superbikes get completely airborne, sometimes several feet off the ground.

Lincolnshire is increasingly becoming a hotbed of bike racing talent the HM Plant Honda team that leads the 2010 BSB championship is based in nearby Louth and Ryuichi Kiyonari, the most successful rider in the series' history, also resides in the same town. Lincoln's Sam Lowes is currently leading the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship and Woodhall Spa-based Steve Plater is set to make his racing comeback at Cadwell Park in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship. Fans' favourite Plater also rides for HM Plant Honda and he makes his return just three months after breaking an arm and cracking a vertebra in his neck in a crash at the North West 200 event in Northern Ireland.

Jon Rush, Circuit Manager of Cadwell Park, said: "We are really looking forward to the August Bank Holiday round of BSB and once again we are anticipating a huge number of superbike fans to visit the circuit over the three day event the money they spend in the region, particularly on accommodation, is a real boost to the local economy too. I very much hope the residents of Horncastle will once again be lining the streets to wave on the thousands of riders as they leave the venue on Monday!

"This is without doubt the biggest event on the circuit's calendar and fans really do embrace the party atmosphere over the Bank Holiday weekend. BSB always produces some immense racing on track and with the championship so close, there is going to be a real battle for the wins that's for sure! For those that haven't visited the event before and seen the spectacular sight of Superbikes get airborne over the Mountain then you must come and check it out!"

The race weekend comprises practice, qualifying and 12 races in total, including two headline BSB races on Bank Holiday Monday. The spectacular Boldog freestyle motocross team will also be at Cadwell Park on Sunday and Monday performing dramatic airborne stunts.

The next round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship is the Showdown decider at Cadwell Park on 28/29/30 August. For more information and to book your tickets in advance call 0870 950 9000 or click the link below
