Cadwell gears up for MCE British Superbike Spectacular

Friday, August 15 2014

Cadwell Park is preparing for the biggest event of its 80th anniversary season on August Bank Holiday weekend (23rd-25th) as the stars of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship contest the most popular round of the season on the country's most spectacular circuit

MCE BSB is the UK's most popular motor racing championship, and the upcoming round at Cadwell Park will attract tens of thousands of fans from across the country, drawn to the fantastic views on offer and the festival atmosphere of the biggest event on the calendar. The hills of the Lincolnshire Wolds form many natural spectating areas at Cadwell Park and the famed Mountain section, where the 200bhp Superbikes get completely airborne, is just one of many great places to watch the racing.

Japanese superstar Ryuichi Kiyonari, who lives in nearby Louth, is currently the form man in the 2014 MCE BSB championship. The Buildbase BMW rider has won four of the last nine races, and has moved up to third in the points table behind Australian Josh Brookes in second and current leader Shane 'Shakey' Byrne. Like Byrne, Kiyonari is a former three-time MCE BSB champion, and the pair are embroiled in a thrilling 'War for Four' titles this season.

Kiyonari said: "I really like Cadwell Park, because since I've lived in the UK it's been my home circuit and so I always want to have a good result there. My confidence is really high, we have worked hard and we have shown we can be fast at every round. We want to be winning but if you stop pushing for one moment then someone like Shakey, Josh or another rider will beat you. We need to stay ahead because we have closed the gap in the championship but we still need more podiums. I am looking forward to Cadwell Park and I am going there to try and win again."

The flamboyant Josh Brookes took a dominant win last time out at Oulton Park, and the keen motocross rider is notorious for putting his skills to use with huge, crowd-pleasing leaps over Cadwell's Mountain.

Brookes said: "I pushed as hard as I could at the last round to get the win and I expect to  do the same at Cadwell Park. Every time we go there I look forward to the Mountain and it will be new to me this year with the Yamaha, but I want to be able to jump it nice and smooth for the fans to enjoy."

The weekend features nine support races in addition to the two headlining MCE BSB contests on Monday. There's live music from great bands during the evening on Saturday and Sunday, plus a charity cycle race on Sunday evening, a funfair and a playground for younger race fans to enjoy.

Discounted advance tickets are available until midday on Wednesday 20 August from just £26; children under 13 are admitted free. For more information and to book please call 0843 453 9000 or click here
