Cadwell Park International Classic in pictures

Wednesday, July 29 2015

The Lincolnshire Wolds' motorcycle racing heritage was celebrated at the inaugural Cadwell Park International Classic last weekend, with a packed programme of races, parades, star guests, and much more!

With so much going on, it was sometimes hard to know which way to look at the event, which welcomed local heroes, bike collectors, and fans to revel in a unique atmosphere.

We've selected some of our favourite images from the event for you to look at below (click the images to view a larger version).

Grand Prix Guestlist

Top names from the world of Grand Prix Motorcycle racing were in attendance, including 15-time World Champion Giacomo Agostini (pictured right) and his one-time MV Agusta team mate Phil Read (pictured left), himself an eight-time champion.

Six-time Honda World Champion Jim Redman was present too.

Parades in the Park

Agostini (pictured on his MV Agusta) led the way in a series of special parades, which saw great riders including John Cooper, Sammy Miller, Mick Grant, Roger Burnett and more reunited with their motorcycles from yesteryear.

As you can see here, they even lifted a wheel or two over the Mountain!

Retro Racing

A special selection of historic bike races headlined the on-track show, including the International Classic Grand Prix Series and the International Historic Racing Organisation, both of which recreated a bygone era of GP Motorcycle racing.

Other highlights included a series of one-off special races.

Mountaintop Views

Spectators were offered the special opportunity to experience the Lincolnshire circuit's challenging twists and turns first hand on a special bus tour, guided by riding legends such as John Reynolds and Roger Marshall.

Eyes on the Sky

There was plenty to watch in the sky as well as on the track at the inaugural Cadwell Classic, including an air display from a privately-owned Supermarine Spitfire and Messerschmitt BF 109, 75 years on from the Battle of Britain.

Meet and Greet

Fans were treated with unrivalled access to their favourite riders, including Agostini. The riders met the fans around the venue, including during special autograph sessions, in addition to posing for selfies in the assembly area...

Popular Personalities

All of the guest riders took part in special Q&A sessions on-stage, where they shared many of their on-andoff-track memories from the past 60+ years.

The stars were interviewed by well-known riders-turned-presenters James Haydon and Jamie Whitham, in addition to fan favourite Steve Plater (pictured far right).

Novelty Nostalgia

The programme also celebrated the history of two-wheeled machinery away from the racing circuit, including in a 'Mods and Rockers' parade, recalling the popular culture clash of the '60s and '70s.

Famously the Mods favoured stylish Italian-style scooters, whilst the Rockers fancied more traditional motorcycles.

Warmly Received

The inaugural Cadwell Classic was a smash hit with many of those who attended, including the riders who took to the stage and track.

Superbike stars Chris Walker and John Reynolds (pictured) were among those hailing the event as a major success.
