International Classic star guests excited by Cadwell Park return

Thursday, July 23 2015

Several of this weekend's (25/26 July) Cadwell Park International Classic star guests are looking forward to returning to the Lincolnshire venue, which helped them establish their reputations in motorcycle racing.

Seven-time Isle of Man TT winner Mick Grant, who will be at the venue on both days, has a special reason to be fond of Cadwell Park. He said: "Cadwell holds fond memories for me - it was where I had my first national win! Riding a Jim Lee Norton Commando, my opponent that day was Charlie Sanby on a Gus Khun Norton. Charlie was an established star and I was an unknown. I must have been riding wild as on several occasions over the mountain, he pointed to his head indicating I had a screw loose!

"Later, and with a fair bit more experience riding my 350 Yamaha, I had a great scrap with Ago on the three-cylinder 500 MV. He won, and I finished a close second. We both broke the 80 mph barrier at Cadwell for the first time."

World Championship and TT racer Phil Odin has several reasons to remember the circuit. He said: "I recently opened my trophy box and counted 35 wins, 19 second places, and 12 third places at Cadwell!"

Multiple champion Ian Simpson, known as the Dalbeattie Destroyer, said: "I really enjoyed the 80th Anniversary event last year as I love bikes from the 80s and 90s. I'm looking forward to riding my ex Steve Hislop/John Reynolds ZXR750 and my Ow01 Yamaha."

British solo champion and sidecar racer Garry Dickinson said: "I first came to Cadwell Park with my parents in the late '60s, and remember watching some of the all-time greats such as Mike Hailwood, Phil Read, John Cooper, Barry Sheene and Bob Smith, plus some of the great sidecar racers like Jeff Gawley, Mac Hobson and Jock Taylor.

"I have been fortunate to race both solo and sidecars at Cadwell and it is still a favourite circuit with racers and fans alike."

Tickets for the Cadwell Park International Classic are available on the gate from £15, with free entry for children under 13. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
