Trials and GP star Sammy Miller MBE to appear at Cadwell Classic

Thursday, July 09 2015

Trials ace and Motorcycle Grand Prix podium-finisher Sammy Miller MBE will join the illustrious guest list at the inaugural Cadwell Park International Classic on Sunday 26 July, celebrating the Lincolnshire Wolds circuit's rich heritage of two-wheeled motorsport.

Northern Irishman Miller was a front-runner in 250cc and 125cc Motorcycle Grands Prix between 1955 and 1958, recording six top-three finishers during his career, but is best-known for his exploits as a trials rider.

Mastering the off-road finesse techniques required to succeed in trials riding, Miller was British Trials Champion 11 times, and European Trials Champion twice. During his career, Miller amassed more than 1,300 wins in trials events, including nine gold medals in the International Six Days Trial - the oldest off-road motorcycle event on the FIM calendar - and six victories in the Scottish Six Days Trial.

A versatile rider, Miller was a podium-finisher on his way to third overall in the 1957 250cc Grand Prix Motorcycle Championship, and won three races at the famous North West 200 road race event in Northern Ireland.

Following his retirement, Miller established the much-loved Sammy Miller Motorcyle Museum in Hampshire, which currently houses more than 300 motorcycles and sidecars. The museum is affiliated with the British Motorcycle Charitable Trust, an organisation dedicated to supporting the preservation and restoration of classic British motorcycles.

Sammy will be bringing a selection of motorcycles from his museum's collection to the event to appear in the classic motorcycle displays.

Miller joins a star-studded line-up at the event, lining-up alongside 15-time World Champion Grand Prix rider Giacomo Agostini, legendary commentator Murray Walker, and many of the Lincolnshire circuit's local riding heroes.

Miller commented: "Cadwell Park is one of the great circuits in Britain and a natural road race circuit and will be very familiar to me as it is similar to the road racing I did in Ireland with the NSU Sportsmax, the Ducatis, CZs and Mondial racers.

"I am looking forward to riding at Cadwell with my two exotic bikes: the BMW Rennsport and the Bicilindrical Moto Guzzi. These bikes have the charisma of the 1950's exotic racing machinery when every bike was individual, designed by enthusiasts and riders and not built by computers."

Tickets for the Cadwell Park International Classic are available from £15, with free entry for children under 13. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here to visit the dedicated event website.
