Packed Cadwell Park season gets underway this month

Monday, March 02 2015

The 2015 racing season kicks off at Cadwell Park this month, with the Auto 66 Bike Championships on 21/22 March. More than 25 events will take place during the year, with action almost every weekend until November at the charismatic Lincolnshire circuit. Spectating at the venue has been enhanced with new grandstands offering increased seating capacity, and tickets are now on sale for all motor racing events, starting at just £10, with free entry for children under 13.

An undoubted highlight will be the new Cadwell Park International Classic on 25/26 July, celebrating the venue's long-standing affinity with motorcycle racing. The venue is a firm favourite amongst the two-wheeled community and a host of stars will be taking part in demonstrations throughout the weekend, including the legendary Giacomo Agostini, who won 15 World Championship titles. With a packed programme of international and domestic historic bike racing, parades, demonstrations, displays, trade stands and live music, it will be a major addition to the historic racing calendar.

The UK's most popular racing series, the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, is Cadwell Park's best-loved event and the annual 'Party in the Park' weekend returns on 21-23 August. Shane 'Shakey' Byrne has set his sights on a record-smashing fifth title but will face stiff opposition from triple champion Ryuichi Kiyonari, who nearly stole the championship last year, plus fearless Aussie Josh Brookes and Michael Laverty, who returns from MotoGP, amongst 39 riders already confirmed. Truly world-class, this year's MCE BSB will feature riders from eleven nations, including Honda's Jenny Tinmouth, the championship's first female works rider.

There will be a different kind of two-wheeled action in June, when the riders in the British Cycling Time Trial will be using pedal power to climb the circuit's famous Mountain. Sir Bradley Wiggins and Emma Pooley are the current champions and many of the country's best cyclists are expected to compete in this event, which takes place on Thursday 25 June and forms part of the British Cycling National Road Championships. Car fans will be looking forward to Modified Live on 25 April, with spectacular on-track action headlined by the high-performance machinery of the Time Attack Championship and the custom classics of Retro Time Attack. There will also be a host of demonstrations from exotic cars, plus off-track entertainment that includes club competitions, stunt shows, retail stands and family-friendly entertainment.

There are more historic events on two, three and four wheels, including the Classic Racing Motorcycle Club on 2-4 May and Vintage Motor Cycle Club on 26-27 September, plus the Historic Sports Car Club's popular Wolds Trophy on 27/28 June and the Vintage Sports-Car Club's annual festival on Sunday 7 June.

More variety comes from two rally events at Cadwell Park this year, with the Alan Healy Memorial Rally kicking off the stage action on Sunday 29 March and the North Humberside Rally ending the season in style with night action on Sunday 15 November.
